"SAVE AS": Use An Existing Estimate To Create Another

Did you know you can use an existing estimate as a ‘template’ to create a new estimate?

Use the “Save As” feature to create a ‘Carbon Copy’ estimate with a different name. As an example, say you already created an estimate for Mr. Smith for a basement remodel. Now, six months later Mr. Jones wants you to estimate a basement remodel for him that was very similar to the scope of work in Mr. Smith’s project. You can use Mr. Smith’s existing estimate to create a new estimate for Mr. Jones. This can save a tremendous amount of time in comparison to creating a new estimate from the beginning.

1. OPEN the existing estimate (in this example “Smith Basement”) that is similar in content to the new estimate you are about to create.

2. Choose the FILE pull-down menu, and then choose SAVE AS (Alternatively, choose SAVE AS from the Vertical Slider menu).

Choose Save As

3. Enter the new estimate title (In this example “Jones Basement”). Estimate titles can be up to 50 characters in length, and should contain only letters and numbers. (Do not use punctuation or alphanumeric characters).

4. Choose OK to create an identical estimate with the new entered title. Choose CANCEL to cancel the process and to not create the new estimate. After entering an estimate title and choosing OK, the “new” estimate will be displayed on-screen.

Choose OK

At this point, you have created a new estimate with a different estimate title that is identical in content to the original estimate. The original estimate remains unchanged in both title and content.

Once in the new estimate (The “Save As” version), you will need to complete the following:

5. Edit the client information for this estimate. Access the “Client Information” screen by choosing the EDIT pull-down menu, and then choosing EDIT CLIENT INFORMATION. If the “new” client is already in your client list, simply select/highlight the client name in the list. If the “new” client is not already in the list, choose the NEW CLIENT button and add the client to the list.

Edit Client Information

6. Edit the estimate content to reflect the current project. Add, edit, or delete line items in the estimate to reflect the current scope of work in the project you are estimating.
