Please describe some strengths and weaknesses.
Request both so as to avoid looking as if you are prejudiced against the candidate. However, if the reference gives only strengths and positive qualities, ask again for the weaknesses.
How often did he/she miss work?
How did he/she get along with coworkers and with subordinates?
Could you give me some examples?
Did he/she work well without close supervision?
Was the applicant willing to share his/her knowledge with other employees, answer their questions, and provide guidance?
Would you rehire this individual?
